Yes, there are many rules and requirements that govern your privacy. Announcements on what we must tell you. But the bottom line is that I want to do more. I want to be very clear what this site knows about you.

The answer is … not much. The Pirate Wanderer is based on WordPress, which means that there are some WP cookies present. But because we don’t allow you to log in, the only information kept is the minimum needed to run the WordPress software. There is no personally identifying information captured, because you didn’t provide any.

Having said that, if you choose to leave a comment, additional info will be gathered. You are required to leave an email address and a name to comment. It doesn’t have to be a correct one, so whatever you enter will be stored. But … it will never be used outside of The Pirate Wanderer. And I can’t think of a reason why I would ever use it. Unless perhaps you wrote something completely inappropriate and I had to block your address.

If you fill out the contact form to contact me, that doesn’t “store” information on the site, but it does send an email to me directly. So whatever you enter will be available in my personal inbox.

Ironically, the code that pops up the privacy notification announcement, that you must click to go away, stores information about your browser in a cookie. But just the fact that you acknowledged that we use cookies. It’s very circular.

And that’s the extent of what this site gathers and knows. If you happen to be nice enough to donate to us (via PayPal), then whatever PayPal stores is what they store. This site has no knowledge or insight to that information. Same with Amazon and book sales. The Pirate Wanderer only links you to their site. We get nothing back in the way of information.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at rick@thepiratewanderer.com.
